Nepal Police Club (NPC) beat CMG Sankata Club (SC) by 3-2 goals to enter quarterfinal of 5th Simara Gold Cup 2014 at Simara on Sunday. Bharat Shah scored a brace and Yogesh Shrestha added a goal for cops meanwhile Manish Ghale and Kalu Thapa scored for SC. Cops started the match in good note even they played without custodian Ritesh Thapa, forward Jumanu Rai in this match.
Ganesh Khadka gave a superb pass to Bharat Shah but SC’s custodian Pieree came forward to save the ball in the 15th minute of the match before he denied Bhola Nath Silwal’s free kick a minute later. Sankata’s first good attempt came in the 25th minute when their custodian Pierre gave long pass to Salyan but cops defender Suman Subedhi did his best to clear the ball out from the box. NPC tried their best to take a lead but they failed to crack down SC’s defender, however cops took a lead in the 40th minute through Bharat Shah to punish opponents’ defense line to make 1-0 up against SC. Cops looked confident after scoring a goal and they almost scored their second but custodian Pierre did his best to deny Ganesh Khadka in the 44th minute. In the second half NPC played more aggressively and they doubled their lead in the 50th minute when Yogesh Shrestha utilized a pass of Ganesh Khadka to make 2-0 up against Sankata Club. Sankata looked recharged after conceding this goal and they pressed hard to cut the deficit but they failed to pass cops defender Suman Subedhi in many occasions. SC was awarded a spot kick in the 65th minute when cops defender Suraj BK fouled Rajeev Gurung inside the box and Manish Ghale scored an easy spot kick to cut the deficit against NPC. After scoring an easy spot kick SC tried their best to level the score and they did it in the 85th minute when Kalu Thapa utilized a pass of Rajeev Gurung to make 2-2 against NPC. Sankata almost took a lead in the 89th minute but cops custodian Bishal Shrestha made a brilliant saved to deny Rajeev Gurung. Match was extended for extra 3 minutes and in the first half of extra time both teams were busy in midfield battle and we did not see a single dangerous move from both sides. In the second half of extra time Nepal Police Club played offensively but custodian Pierre did his best to deny Bharat Shah and Bhola Nath Silwal in the 107th minute and 108th minute respectively. NPC took a lead again in the 114th minute when Bharat Shah scored his second goal of the match to beat SC’s defender to make 3-2 up against Sankata Club. In the remaining time both failed to add more goals and the match ended in favor of Nepal Police Club by 3-2 goals to enter quarterfinal of 5th Simara Gold Cup 2014. Bharat Shah of Nepal Police Club was declared the man of the match.
