Nepal Police Club beat Dharan Football Academy

Bharat Shah a late goal as departmental team Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated local team Dharan Football Academy (DFA) 1-0 to enter quarterfinal on 16th Budha Subba Gold Cup 2014 on Sunday at Dharan Stadium. Cops wasted numerous chances during the match, with Jumanu Rai, Dipen Shrestha and Ganesh Khadka missing the best opening during whole match. Departmental team started the match in impressive note and Ganesh Khadka and Jumanu Rai made good combination but Rai’s nice flick went inch above the bar in the 4th minute. Bhola Nath Silwa’s beautiful free kick in the 8th minute was magnificently saved by DFA’s custodian Afjit.

Cops played full attacking football but failed to utilize the chance they got. NPC wasted another chance to take a lead in the 16th minute Jumanu Rai’s brilliant shot went inch wide. Rai again failed to give ball in the proper direction to Bhola Nath Silwal’s free kick in the 18th minute. DFA’s tested cops custodian Ritesh Thapa for the first time in the 25th minute but Thapa denied Janak Sunwar’s shot easily. Jumanu Rai gave immense pressure on DFA’s custodian Afjit but Rai again failed to beat him in the 33rd minute. Ganesh Khadka’s powerful strike was not properly utilized by Dipen Shrestha in the 36th minute. Shrestha again missed a good chance to take a lead two minute later. Ganesh Khadka looked blunt not to utilize Jumanu Rai’s pass in the 40th minute. Dharan Football Academy almost punished cops defender for their blunders but experienced custodian Ritesh Thapa did his best to deny Saujen Rai’s brilliant effort in the 44th minute. In the second half DFA was in no mood to play attacking football and cops on the other hand played attacking football but Dipen Shrestha who wasted as many as two clear goal scoring chances in the first half wasted another good chance in the 51st minute of the match. Ganesh Khadka’s good header went inch above the bar in the 55th minute. Saujen Rai of DFA came closer to punish cops in the 60th minute but Rai’s shot went inch above the bar. Jumanu Rai, Ganesh Khadka, DIpen Shrestha and Bharat Shah failed to utilize the chance in the 61st minute, 63rd minute, 66th minute and 70th minute respectively, all of them failed to beat junior and less experienced player. Jumanu Rai was almost in mood to take a lead in the 80th minute but Rai’s hard effort was well denied by DFA’s defenders. NPC wasted mouthwatering chance in the 83rd minute when Bhola Nath Silwal’s powerful shot was well punched by DFA’s custodian Afjit and in the rebound ball Bharat Shah failed to beat Afjit in one VS one. Bhola Nath Silwal’s nice attempt in the 90th minute went out and match went in the extra time of 15 minutes. In the first half of the extra time NPC played attacking football but failed to capitalize the chance in the 95th minute and 96th minute, Cops failed to crackdown the defense line of DFA. In the second half of the extra time NPC finally broke the deadlock of DFA in the 97th minute through Bharat Shah to send Nepal Police Club to the quarterfinal of Budha Subba Gold Cup 2014.
