Birgunj United Club beat Nepal Army Club

Birgunj United Club (BUC) beat departmental team Nepal Army Club (NAC) by a solitary goal to enter the quarterfinals of the 5th Simara Gold Cup 2014 at Simara today. Peter Segun scored a solitary goal for winning team in the 22nd minute of the match. The match was quite bored as both teams failed to create the chances up to 20th minute, not a single attempt came from the both teams up to that time.

Though NAC had star players like Bharat Khawas, Raju Tamang and Santosh Nepali, they failed to create a single chance in the match up to 20th minute. On the other hand BUC had fresh and young footballers except some players from A Division football clubs. Birgunj United Club played a fantastic football and they scored a goal against big guns in the 22nd minute when Peter Segun beat NAC’s custodian Raju Yogi to make 1-0 up against Army men. After scoring the goal, BUC looked confident and they tried their best to double the score line but failed to capitalize it. Goal scorer Segun almost doubled his tally in the 28th minute but his left footed kick was well denied by NAC’s custodian Raju Yogi.  Army men recharged from the 30th minute of the match and they tried their best to level the score but they failed to beat the fruit. Army men forwards Bharat Khawas and Nawyug Shrestha failed to capitalize the chances. In the second half of the match Nepal Army Club played offensive football to level the score and almost leveled the score in the 48th minute but Bharat Khawas’a shot was well saved by Dilip Chettry, formal Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) goal keeper.  Birgunj United Club hired forward Amar Dangol, Shekhar Limbu, Dilip Chettry from RCT, meanwhile Pukar Ghatraj, Segun and Sagar Lama from Himalayan Sherpa Club. Army men tried their best in the second half but Bharat Khawas, Raju Tamang and Nawayug Shrestha failed to level the goal. BUC’s custodian Dilip Chettry made some brilliant saved to deny Bharat Khawas in the 55th minute, 58th minute and 65th minute. Similarly, Raju Tamang failed to utilize the free kick he took in the 56th minute and 70th minute; his superb free kick hit the wall in both occasions. Amar Dangol of BUC wasted two opportunities to increase the score in the 71st minute and 59th minute. Bharat Khawas wasted so many chances in today’s match and he did same in the 75th minute when he missed a free shot from the box. Raju Tamang’s superb free kick in the 80th minute was well denied by BUC’s custodian Dilip Chettry. BUC almost doubled their lead but Shekhar Limub hit the cross bar in the 83rd minute. In the injury time of 90+2 minute Nepal Army Club almost leveled the score but Raju Nepali was unlucky to kick the ball outside the post. In the remaining time NAC failed to break the deadlock of BUC and match ended in favor of BUC to play quarterfinal of the tournament. Goal scorer Segun was adjusted the man of the match.
