In the second match played today Dharan Football Club (DFC) beat departmental team Nepal Army Club (NAC) by 2-1 goals to enter the quarterfinal of the Aaha Rara Cup 2014 played on today at Pokhara. African player Segun Akinade scored both goals for winning team and Raju Tamang scored a solitary goal for departmental side.
It was Army men who started the match in good note but Bharat Khawas was unlucky as his acrobatic shot hit the cross bar in the 2nd minute. The first good attempt came from DFC in the 5th minute but Nirajan Khadka’s powerless shot was well saved by Army custodian Raju Yogi. In the 7th minute Kashi Raj Karki got rebounded shot of Tanka Basnet but Karki’s shot went little above the bar. Army men Deepak Gurung was unlucky to foul on Segun inside the box so that Dharan FC got spot kick in the 18th minute and Segun Akinade scored an easy goal to make 1-0 up. After conceding an unlucky goal Army men looked aggressive and their forwards Bharat Khawas and Kashi Raj Karki tried their best to level the score but they failed to beat opponents custodian and bar on many occasions. Finally Army men broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when Raju Tamang utilized a cross of Tek Bahadur Budathoki to punish poor defense line of Dharan FC to make 1-1. In the second half Dharan FC tried to play good football and Segun Akinade scored utilizing super long ball from custodian Kiran Chemjong to strike into the net to punish a mistake from custodian Raju Yogi to make 2-1 up. Akinade almost scored his hat-trick in the 53rd minute but Army’s custodian Raju Yogi was smart enough to deny him. Army men looked blunt in the second half and they did not give penetration to opponents. In the 72nd minute Dharan FC’s custodian Kiran Chemjong kick the long shot and Ibrahim found the header but custodian Raju Yogi was alert enough to save the ball. In the 74th minute Bharat Khawas found the header inside the box but Dharan FC’s custodian Chemjong saved it hardly. In the remaining 15th minute Army men tried to equal the score but some wonderful and smart saved from custodian Kiran Chemjong in the 83rd minute to deny Tanka Basnet and 85th minute to deny Bharat Khawas trouble their aim. In the remaining time both failed to break the deadlock and match ended in favor of Dharan Football Club by 2-1 goals. With this win Nepal Army Club crashed out from the tournament and Dharan FC created history to enter second round for the first time in the history of Aaha Rara Gold Cup. Dharan Football Club is the assembled team of Three Star Club and other A Division Club players who did not participate in this tournament. The goal scorer Segun Akinade was the Himalayan Sherpa Club forward and custodian Kiran Chemjong, defender Smart and Nirajan Khadka belongs to the Three Star Club player.
