Dharan FC beat Kanchanjunga FC in Budha Subba Gold Cup

Host Dharan Football Club (DFC) labored hard to beat Kanchanjunga Football Club (KFC) by 2 goals in the opening match of the Budha Subba Gold Cup 2014 played on Friday at Dharan. DFC started the match brightly with Ashim Jung Karki and Sandip Rai came close inside the first 10th minute of the match. DFC is an assembled team from A Division Club and had five national team players. Nirajan Khadka of DFC gave a good pass to Manish Ghale but latter’s kick went little above the bar in the 6th minute.
DFC played attacking football and they tried their best for an early breakthrough but failed to find the net. In the 12th minute Ashim Jung Karki tried his luck from edge of the box but his shot went little wide. KFC’s first attack came in the 14th minute when Bidur Chhetri missed a brilliant chance to take a lead. KFC wasted another chance in the 23rd minute when Raju did his best to beat national keeper Kiran Chemjong but Sandip Rai cleared the ball out from the box. Pranish Lama of Kanchanjunga Football Club also wasted a good chance to take a lead in the 26th minute he gave a ball to the hand of Kiran Chemjong in one VS one condition. Nirajan Khadka took a free kick but his effort went vain as nobody from DFC was there to collect his free kick in the 28th minute. Shekhar Limbu of DFC did his best to score in the 35th minute but his hard effort was well denied by KFC’s custodian Raja. In the second half DFC played more aggressively and they finally took a lead in the 54th minute when Demola scored for DFC to utilize defensive lapse of Kanchanjunga FC to make 1-0 up against KFC. Bijaya Dhimal, who contributed for the goal in the 54th minute, had to leave the game due to injury and he was replaced by Samir Limbu in the 59th minute. Ashim Jung Karki wasted a good chance for DFC in the 61st minute his poor shot was easily saved by KFC’s custodian Raja. Sabindra Shrestha’s good attempt was well over headed by Ashim Jung Karki but Karki’s head went out in the 71st minute. KFC played some attacking football to come back in the match but their forwards failed to beat DFC’s defender and their national goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong. Dharan FC doubled their lead in the 79th minute through African recruit Martins to make 2-0 up against KFC. After conceding this goal KFC looked confused and they did not show the signal to come back in the match. Even though KFC played good football they conceded two silly goals due do the blunders of their defenders rather than opponents hardworking. In the remaining time KFC failed to cut the deficit and match ended in favor of Dharan FC by 2 goals to enter semi final of the 16th Budha Subbha Gold Cup. Machhindra Football Club will play African United in tomorrow’s match.
