Departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) came from behind to beat Saraswoti Youth Club (SYC) by 3-2 goals to enter quarterfinal of 5th Simara Gold Cup 2014 at Simara Stadium on Friday.
Tanku Lama and Pius scored for SYC in the 10th minute and 68th minute respectively before Palsang Lama, Jangbu Sherpa and Nabin Lama scored a piece of goal for APF in the 71st minute, 82nd minute and 99th minute respectively.
Saraswoti Youth Club started the match in good note and they took an early lead in the 10th minute when Tanku Lama utilized Bonny’s pass to beat APF custodian Amrti Chaudhary to make make 1-0 up against APF. After scoring an early goal, SYC looked confident and they played offensive match against APF. The first good attempt of APF came in the 24th minute but Milan Rai failed to utilize the chance. Both teams were busy in midfield battle up to 40th minute and APF forward Ranjan Bista tried to cut through SYC defense line in the 43rd minute but he failed to do so. In the second half both teams were again busy in midfield battle and not so much action up to 65th minute of the match. SYC doubled their tally in the 67th minute through Pius Henry who utilized Dipesh Shrestha’s pass to make 2-0 up against APF. After conceding two silly goals from SYC, APF tried to play offensive game and they cut the deficit in the 71st minute through Palsang Lama who utilized Nabin Lama’s free kick to make 1-2 against SYC. APF leveled the score in the 82nd minute through Jangbu Sherpa who utilized Nabin Lama’s attempt to make 2-2. The extra 20 minutes were added and it was decided by organizers and APF played very aggressive football in extra time and they finally took a lead for the first time against SYC to make 3-2 in the 99th minute of the match and this time Nabin Lama scored for APF. SYC tried to level the score but Raj Kumar Ghising and Pius Henry failed to beat APF custodian Amrit Chaudhary in the 102nd minute and 105th minute respectively. Saraswoti Youth Club failed to maintain their 2 goals lead against departmental side they were 2 goals up against APF for up to 70th minute of the match but they were beaten by 3-2 goals. SYC failed to utilize the chance to enter quarterfinal of the tournament and they also failed to capitalize the lead. On the other hand, APF played a good football even without their veteran forward Ganesh Lawati in today’s match. APF came from 2 goals behind to win the match and they did it very fantastically, they conceded both goals due to the mistake of APF defenders so they need to concentrate more on defense line. Nabin Lama of APF was adjusted the man of the match. In the remaining time both failed to utilize the chances and match ended in favor of APF to enter quarterfinal of Simara Gold Cup 2014.
