2014-02-11
Nepal Police Club (NPC) beat CMG Sankata Club by 2 goals in the first match of super six league played today at Dasarth Stadium.  Jumanu Rai and Bharat Shah scored a piece of goal for cops in 64th minute and 90+5 minute respectively. NPC dominated the show and piled up consistent pressure on Sankata but had to wait second half to achieve the target. Both sides ended a goalless draw in the first league.
Cops made about half a dozen attempts on goal but Sankata’s rock solid defense failed their plan in the first half. Bhola Nath Silwal’s lovely free kick in the 7th minute went inches above the bar, Nir Kumar Rai of NPC took a free kick in the 15th minute but his free kick was well cleared by defender Ibrahim. Sankata’s first goal on target came in the 17th minute when cops custodian Ritesh Thapa denied Ibrahim’s free kick. Bhola Nath Silwal was the captain of cops as Jumanu Rai was not in starting eleven for cops. Ganesh Khadka’s shoot from the D box but hit the bar in the 20th minute, team captain’s corner kick was well headed by Bharat Shah but his header went out in the 22nd minute of the match. Cops looked organized to win the match but opponent’s rock solid defense failed their party in the first half of the match.
In the second half star forward Jumanu Rai enter the field in the 55th minute and after his entrance cops looked more organized and Sankata goalie Pierre made one hand hard save to deny Bhola Nath Silwal’s free kick in the 56th minute . Sankata’s rare attack came in the 63rd minute but forward Rajeev Gurung failed to direct the ball into the post. Finally Jumanu Rai broke the rock solid defense line of Sankata in the 64th minute when he scored his 5th league goal through a header to utilize a corner kick taken by Bhola Nath Silwal to make cops 1-0 up. After this lead cops tried to play some defensive football but their final passes looked so poor to level the score. In the 75th minute Sankata got a good chance for an equalizer but Barsat Gurung’s poor free kick was easily cleared by cops’ defense line. In the 82nd minute cops custodian Ritesh Thapa made brilliant save to deny Kalu Thapa’s free kick. In the remaining 30 minute match Sankata played quick game but they failed to create dangerous move in cops’ den. In the injury time of 5 minute NPC doubled their lead and Bharat Shah was the man who scored for them. Cops played good football today and Sankata failed to play a match as they did in the first round against cops they were without an African recruit forward Afeez in this match. With this valuable win, NPC moved to the second spot with 25 points from thirteen matches and they are challenging Manang Marshyagdi Club and Three Star Club for the title and with this win cops made this super six interesting and challenging.  Meanwhile Sankata is unchanged with 22 points from thirteen matches and they are in the 4th spot.
