Machhindra Club came from behind to beat Nepal Police Club

2014-02-20
Machhindra Football Club (MFC) stun Nepal Police Club (NPC) by 2-1 goals, which continued MFC winning streak in Super Six League of A Division League 2070 BS on Thursday. Machhindra was the same club which beat defending champion Three Star Club and league leader Manang Marshyagdi Club by 2-1 and 4-0 respectively in previous matches.

A sublime strike of Sushik Kc from the edge of the area in 90+4 minute handed MFC a dramatic 2-1 win over NPC. It was cops who took an early lead in the 11th minute through Bharat Shah, but Ajay BK and Sushik KC scored for MFC in the 87th and 90+4 minute respectively. Cops started the match in good note and they tried to look aggressive and kept ball possession with them up to 4th minute but MFC gained a free kick in the 5th minute but Rajin Dhimal’s free kick was well headed by cop’s midfielder Bhola Nath Silwal. In the 7th minute cops custodian Ritesh Thapa had to come forward to save the ball otherwise Karna Limbu may create trouble for them. Cops played a good model of tiki taka style of Barcelona in the 8th minute, when Ajit Bhandari gave pass to Jumanu Rai and Rai gave one touch pass to Bhola Nath Silwal but Silwal’s powerful kick from outside the box went inch high from the bar. Cops took a lead in the 11th minute when Bharat Shah got a superb pass from Jumanu Rai and Shah beat MFC custodian Dinesh Thapa to score the 6th goal of the tournament which put NPC 1-0 up. But in the 13th minute custodian Dinesh Thapa denied Jumanu Rai which squandered cops to make 2-0 up.  MFC almost equalized the score in the 15th minute but custodian Ritesh Thapa was smart enough to deny Uttam Gurung. In the 21st minute NPC player Ramesh Katuwal looked ambitious and his ambitious powerful shot went out of target. In the 22nd minute Ajit Bhandari cleared the free kick taken from MFC Christope   ball from the box. First half was so entertaining and both teams played one after another attack but both teams forward failed to beat custodian Ritesh Thapa in the 28th minute, 30th minute and 40th minute and Dinesh Thapa in the 29thminute , 35th minute and 38th minute.  In the second half NPC played attacking football and they squandered a good chance in the 52nd minute, Bhola Nath Silwal failed to beat custodian Dinesh Thapa on that occasion. A minute later, NPC custodian Ritesh Thapa denied Uttam Gurung. In the 87th minute Ajay BK leveled the score to punish poor defense line of cops which made 1-1. Sushil KC made it 2-1 in the 90+4 minute of the match, which made a competitive win for Machhindra Club. After this win, MFC Swedish Coach Johan Kalin said that, ‘’ the players have been improving both individually as well as a team’’.  Meanwhile his counterpart NPC coach Birat Krishna Shrestha said that, ‘’ few defensive errors cost his team, poor defending allowed opponents to create chance’’. Win would have brought us level with league leader Manang Marshaygdi Club now we must win both remaining matches to stay in title race, Shrestha added. With this win, MFC jumped to the second place with 28 points from fifteen matches, meanwhile NPC downed to the fourth place with 26 points from equal matches.
