Anil Gurung defeated Nepali Army Club and national forward Bharat Khawas and Nepal Police Club and national midfielder Bhola Nath Silwal. Anil Gurung scored 10 international goals for Nepal and he was the first Nepali player to score in World Cup Qualifying match in home ground.
Voting was done by national team coaches, plus selected sports journalists and SMS from Ncell network. Grurung got 19.91 percent votes out of 20 percent votes from coaches, 18.80 percent votes out of 20 percent votes from journalists and 0.16 percent SMS. There are 88 coaches who participated in voting process and Ncell is the main sponsored of the event. Total 20 national football players were nominated for the award.
