African United Club beat Sahara FC in spot kick to win 16th Budha Subba Gold Cup

African United Club (AUC) beat Sahara Football Club (SFC) 4-3 in sudden death to lift the 16th Budha Subba Gold Cup at Dharan on Saturday.
The match was forced to the spot kick battle after both teams played a goalless draw in regular 90 minute time and extra added time in 15 minutes time. African United Club received Rs 325,000 while the runner up team Sahara Football Club got Rs 162,500. It was Sahara FC to start the match in good note and Suraj Thing’s superb free kick went inch above the bar in the 3rd minute of the match. SFC looked confident and they tried to dominant the field. AUC’s first good attempt came in the 7th minute but Segun Akinade missed a chance as his good strike from the edge went inch above the bar. Anil Ojha of SFC wasted two chances in the 13th minute and 15 minute as he shot the ball outside the frame in both occasions. Bijaya Gurung gave a pass to Suman Lama but AUC’s custodian came forward to save the ball in the 26th minute. Gurung was again smart enough to give a pass to Heman Gurung and latter gave to Anil Ojha but Ojha’s superb shot was beautifully saved by AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha in the 39th minute.
In the second half AUC wasted a good chance to take a lead as Yousuff’s good shot was well saved by SFC’s custodian Sagar Gurung in the 48th minute. Bobby’s kick was superbly taken by Elvis but SFC’s custodian Sagar Gurung did his best to deny him in the 50th minute. Anil Ojha’s superb free kick in the 60th minute was well saved by AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha. Aba Cedric took a powerful free kick in the 65th minute but his free kick was superbly denied by SFC’s custodian Sagar Gurung. AUC player Peter Segun found the free header in the 76th minute but his header went little wide from the pole. Heman Gurung’s superb free kick was beautifully saved by AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha in the 77th minute. Bijaya Gurung’s left footed shot and superb free kick was well saved by AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha in the 84th minute and 88th minute of the match respectively. In the regular time both failed to add goals and in the extra added time Sahara FC started the match in good note but Heman Gurung’s superb free kick in the 94th minute was well saved by AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha. Bijaya Gurung, Anil Ojha and Pius failed to utilize the chance for SFC in the extra time. The extra time also did not see goals so the match was sent to the spot kick. Suman Lama, Sagar Gurung and Bhupal Gurung scored for SFC in the spot kick battle, meanwhile Sisko, Akeem, Mumbara and Segun scored for AUC in the spot kick battle. AUC’s custodian Binaya Shrestha saved Anil Ojha’s and Bijaya Gurung’s spot kick in this battle. Sahara FC’s custodian Sagar Gurung, African United Club’s defender Sissikko, Sahara FC’s midfielder Heman Gurung, Sahara FC’s forward  Bijaya Gurung  received the individual award in the  tournament. Segun and Suman Lama is the highest goal scorers of the tournament, Sagun Tandukar of African United declared the best coach of the tournament; meanwhile Binaya Shrestha of AUC became the man of the tournament and received Yamaha Bike.  All individual best  players got Rs 10,000 cash.
